Inside Job

Definition of inside job: done by or with the help of someone in a position within an organization or group.

More than I care to share, I’ve found myself in situations where I wish I had responded differently. Situations that may or may not have been avoidable, but resulted in not the best version of me showing up. No need for examples, but for those of you that are wondering if you can relate; just think back on the last time you were overlooked, bypassed or treated in a dismissive manner. Remember how you felt? Remember how you reacted? I do, and it wasn’t always pretty😬🙊🙈

At times, I’ve made excuses for myself—“They shouldn’t have been so rude” or “Who do they think they’re dealing with?” Saying things like this afterwards makes my behavior seem fair and just, when really, having a heart of kindness sometimes means you don’t need to have the last word or bark back as loud.

It’s hard to ask God for a clean heart if we’re not willing to let Him do what it takes. Part of what it takes is allowing Him to change us from the inside out. This happens as you continuously grow in your relationship with Him. And we can’t do this without spending quality time in prayer, fellowship, and reading His Word.

It’s an inside job and we can’t do it by ourselves. We need help from the only One who can truly soften the hard areas of our hearts. In those times when particular circumstances seem to get the best of me, I want to be able to pull on something from the inside that reflects the God in me, because that’s what will be remembered.

“Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see God."
-Matthew 5:8
