Dance in the Rain

By guest writer Asha Lambert

In last week’s newsletter we were encouraged by my beautiful, brilliant, and MUCH older sister (😉) Dr. Tammy Barnett, to “remind ourselves that God (Light) is right behind the rain.”

That is truly one of the best reminders that I have to continually repeat to myself when having those rainy days. But can I be for real with y’all for just a little bit? Sometimes those days can turn into weeks, months, maybe even years of feeling like you’re in a rainy season, and that rainbow can seem further and further away from a reality for you and your life. It can feel like, “Geez will it ever stop raining???” And it’s in those lowest moments that God ALWAYS sends provision (maybe an encouraging word, spending time to reset and refresh with friends, a song, a smile from a person walking past you in the office, a random act of kindness from a stranger at Starbucks) to remind me… “I’m in the rain too.”

One of my favorite songs of worship right now says, “God of my present, God of my future, You write my story, You hold it all together!” Man, that thing messes me up EVERY time😭🙌🏾!!! It’s just yet ANOTHER reminder that God gives me (sometimes multiple times a day) that, “Hey girl, you know I already knew this was going to happen, right? You’re the one playing catch up, not me because I wrote this story.”

What a simple, yet profound concept that He is the God of it ALL-the God of the rain AND the rainbow, the God of the failed marriage AND the God of the new healthy relationship, the God in the sickness AND in the healing, the God of the failures AND of the successes, God of the mountain AND of the valley…you get my point? Situations, seasons, “weather,” may…better yet…they WILL change, but He simply does not. Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. “ (NIV) Malachi 3:6 flat out tells us, “I the Lord do not change…” (NIV)

Finding peace and contentment in the rain is HARD, it’s a choice we have to work diligently to make, day by day, moment by moment. But consider this…maybe God is not so focused on changing the situation, but changing you in the situation. So, (perspective shift) let’s stand firm on the fact that He’s God of it all, and until that rainbow shines its light, let’s dance in the rain!💃🏽🌦🌈
