Gotta have the rain...

When I hear mention of a rainbow, and after I get past thoughts of the rainbow that appears in Lucky Charms cereal commercials, along with Wizard of Oz, Judy Garland’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (my personal favorite, however, is Israel IZ Kamakawiwo`ole’s version); I’m reminded of the rainbow in God’s promise to Noah. Throughout the 9th chapter of Genesis, we find that God assures Noah that he’ll never destroy the earth by flood and the rainbow is a sign of that covenant made.

We’re taught that a rainbow is the result of droplets of water in the air and sunlight shining behind them. Hmmmmm, now what if we think about it like this for just a moment…water (Rain) and light (God)... If for every time rain comes into our lives—And I’m referring to the rain that can look like sickness, loss, disappointment, etc..We remind ourselves that God (Light) is right behind that rain, waiting to show His Glory and Faithfulness, waiting to show His rainbow; that rain won’t seem as intense. It’s still rain, don’t get me wrong, but I’ll direct my attention to the light that’s bound to shine through afterwards!!

We lived in Florida for about two years, and we experienced the frequent rain storms that would come out of nowhere, wreck havoc for about 10-20 mins and then stop as quickly and abruptly as it started. The cool breeze that followed (along with the 🌈 , of course) was so refreshing. So much so that you begin to understand that the rain is just a little interruption in your day, but doesn’t last very long….

Rain is rarely fun, but it is necessary for that rainbow that often follows.

“I hereby confirm my covenant with you and your descendants, and with all the animals that were on the boat with you—the birds, the livestock, and all the wild animals—every living creature on earth. Yes, I am confirming my covenant with you. Never again will floodwaters kill all living creatures; never again will a flood destroy the earth.” Then God said, “I am giving you a sign of my covenant with you and with all living creatures, for all generations to come. I have placed my rainbow in the clouds. It is the sign of my covenant with you and with all the earth. When I send clouds over the earth, the rainbow will appear in the clouds.”
