Children are a Blessing

By guest writer Lori Weinstein

My greatest accomplishment in my life was having my children and being able to raise them and watch them grow. My kids are now 15 and 17; teenagers, enough said right? Not quite the most adorable, lovable babies they once were, but now awkward young adults that greet me with sarcasm and sassy attitudes. However, I love watching their determination to learn, their kindness, curiosity and their gift to make me laugh at any given time.

I often hear friends or family say how lucky they are to have great kids. Is it luck or are we blessed? Luck is success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through ones own actions. It definitely takes a village to raise children so it is a choice to gather who is in your tribe to help and guide you on the journey.

I've learned over the years as I raised my children that I have learned more from them then they have learned from me and I feel truly blessed. It's sometimes the small things, the little milestones, the acts of kindness, and watching your children accomplish a goal that make up the whole picture of being blessed. I think about the times I'm frustrated, disappointed, or overwhelmed and always find a silver lining, even if it seems insignificant, such as a great cup of coffee or my comfy pajamas, to know that I am not lucky, just blessed in so many ways. In the Jewish religion there is a blessing for everything.

So, just remember on the days that those sweet little monsters are testing your patience... take a moment to pause and remember how blessed you are to have them in your life! (Or drink a glass of wine πŸ˜‰)
