Self-Love
By guest writer Lisa Harrisonβ€οΈ
Often, when we speak the words "I Love You" it's typically directed towards our children (fur babies included πΆ), family and friends. But, how many times do we take the time to tell ourselves that we are loved? If you are anything like me, several times throughout the years I have neglected to love myself. My focus had always been on showering my tribe with love, in word and deeds, and in doing so my heart was gratified and I also felt loved in return. At some point I realized that as fulfilling as it was loving on everyone else, I forgot to love me.
The book of I Corinthians is the blueprint of love in its truest Godly form. This year my phrase is "Self-Love" and my focus is on applying those same principles to loving myself. The same patience, kindness, slow to anger, and rejoicing in truth (I Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV) are being extended to myself. I am learning to be less critical of myself, celebrating my wins, (big or small), embracing my flaws, learning from my missteps and HEAVY on the forgiveness.
I can tell you that my journey of Self-Love has expanded my heart and my capacity to love those around me in ways that I didn't realize was possible but Philippians 3:14 (KJV) reminds me daily:
βI press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.β.π
