Knock Knock

WHO’S THERE???

....isn’t that the natural response our psyche takes us to? Such a carefree thought to recall for just a moment—Maybe it was your elementary school class clown or possibly adolescent crush who may have used that classic opening as a set up for a punch line, designed to simply bring about a smile or laughter. I took advantage of some of my recent downtime to think about times when things just seemed easier, lighter, “funner”...yes, funner!!!!

As I pondered what to write about this week; there was just no getting around thoughts of how people are reacting to our current health crisis. And take that use of words right there: “current health crisis”... I can’t even begin to share with all of you that are reading, just how many different ways I considered referring to COVID-19, in an effort to be sensitive to how everyone is handling this unprecedented time. From feelings of fear to confusion to dread... I’ve personally seen all of that in these last couple of weeks. But guess what I’ve also seen?

Neighbors coming together to assist those that may not have the necessary resources or preparedness for being isolated for long periods of time——I’ve also seen BIG business help LITTLE business in a time where normal revenue is anything but normal—-And I’ve seen churches remain open (with necessary prudent measures) because they know many people; members or not, just need to feel like they’re not in this alone.

I’m ok if you don’t agree with my position, as I’ve always been comfortable with agreeing to disagree with friends and family—-So here goes...

My husband and I don’t have a supply of toilet tissue or water that will last us until this time next year, nor did we freak out when we saw some stock go in the wrong direction. Now don’t get me wrong... these are not easy, comfortable, feel-good times at all. But when you know God, you know who’s truly in control!

So I hope I can offer some encouragement to those who are locked into the constant media narrative that "it may not get better"——If you haven’t, read Nahum 1:7

The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,
— Nahum 1:7

And as for my opening KNOCK KNOCK reference... I’m making sure that in this call for “social distancing”, my WHO’S THERE is a call to those that know who GOD IS...

”For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”
— Matthew 18:20

We get through this together!
