The Weight of Waiting

When was the last time you were in “wait mode” for something important to happen in your life? And by important, I mean the kind of decision or occurrence that would carry great significance——

You know the kind, like the callback after a job interview or test results after a Dr’s exam that caused some concern....These examples of waiting are usually partnered with a slight obsession with phone or email notifications, clocks, or dates on the calendar.

But what about those other times, when a calendar serves no purpose...

When you’re waiting for that special person that you’ve been believing God for to enter your life, but the dating pool seems depleted, or waiting for the baby that you’ve already pictured a million times over, but the tests keep coming back negative, or waiting for the healing of a loved one, but the Dr’s tell you it’s not getting any better...

There’s a real weight that is often carried while waiting. A heaviness that lies down, gets up and follows us wherever we go.

But right when we feel like we can't wait any longer or the desperation starts to take over, just remember that we have been given an unshakeable promise for peace and joy in the midst of whatever we're waiting for.

There’s something that happens though when we trust God and turn every care and concern over to Him in prayer. It’s as if the heaviness of the weight, is replaced with the lightness and carefree feeling of hope. The “weight or wait” is so much easier when you’re carrying the hope of God.

I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope.
— Psalm 130:5
